Busy, busy, busy

What a busy month June was! We began with our monthly meeting - a taster session on Needle Felting led by a local ‘Needle Felter’ and WI champion, Sue. It was a surprisingly simple technique and we celebrated our creativity producing a variety of amazing examples.  Our very own crafters met at Craft Club and practiced their origami skills to make beautiful flowers.

The Book Club meeting was very successful and discussed thoughts on ‘A Death in the Parish’ by Rev. Richard Coles. It began with a brief history of the author’s life so far and then discussed the book. It was an easy read and readers learned a lot about the workings of the Church of England. Most enjoyed it. Our next read is 'Long Island' by Colm Toibin.

Garden Club involved two garden visits this month – our enthusiastic gardeners visited local Bridgemere Show Gardens and our local Salt House (Standon Hall) gardens. The insight on a garden designed for wedding celebrations was fascinating. What horticultural gems on our doorstep!  

Our WI also supported the local Open Farm by supporting the cake stall. The weather was kind and the event was packed with families and friends from the surrounding area. It was lovely to see so many out enjoying the fresh air and learning about farming in our local community. Our share of the takings boosted our funds by over £200!

Next, we look forward to our Canal Boat Fish and Chip Supper trip, further garden visits, book club and lunch club at the local Blockhouse pub. Interested in joining our group – please get in touch!
