Getting up and growing

What a busy few months! In February, we had our lovely ‘Games Night with Cheese and Wine’. Val ran what has become our annual game, ‘Win and Steal a Present’ which resulted in much banter and laughter. Thank you, Val.

At Book Club we had an interesting discussion on the book ‘Keeper of Lost Things’ by Ruth Hogan which was a book that everyone had enjoyed. In future, we agreed to change the book group to read books suggested and agreed as a group.

Garden Group met to plan an exciting itinerary. Visits to local gardens, sessions to support each other to learn new gardening skills and activities to support the local community. We have planted planters for the Village Hall and are providing a stall at the Village Hall‘s ‘Cream Tea and Plant Sale’ event on May 9th. Thank you, Sandy.

The Annual General Meeting shared the exciting programme for 2026-2027. The Committee deserve a huge thank for developing the events programme and ensuring the smooth running of the group. So much goes on behind the scenes and we are truly grateful. Check out our new programme on the Events page.

Lunch Group in April was a real highlight. We met at Stafford College for an afternoon tea prepared and served by catering students. The venue, food and service were excellent. It was brilliant to chat to the students and find out their aspirations. Thank you to Annie for organising such a great event.

April brought another highlight with line-dancing taster by Trish Hill. It was a great session – learning and remembering sequences of steps, keeping up with some great tunes and getting mixed up. We got it in the end! We finished with a bit if seated dancing.

Walking Group remains on hold but some of us do walk with the Active Living Group based in Whitmore until our Walking Group is back up and running.

Finally, Sandy prepared a poster to celebrate the events of the WI. This included some of the amazing objects made by our Craft Group and tiny shoes made at our December meeting. This was shared at the annual Village Hall AGM.

We are looking to all the events on this year's programme and to contributing to the Cream Tea and Plant Sale on 9th May at the Village Hall.

A quiet start

Snow kept us from our January meeting. This evening of Cheese and Games was postponed to February. There was still a chance, for those who could, to catch up with another meeting at The George in Eccl
